The Bride of Autumn makes her stride
Sweeping, curious and wide
She holds fire in her hands
Gathered from the dying lands
Her tangled wisps catch in the trees
Unworthy shrubs graze past her knees
She wanders through the woods alone
Though never lonely-she’s at home
The Groom of Winter lurks in his place
Pale and ashen is his face
His hand extends, stiff and dried
Beckoning his rosy bride
The Bride of Autumn stops her stride
Despairingly she commits a sigh
“They say it is our fate to be
Wed together, you and me
Selfish you are without relent
You rob trees of their ornaments
You strangle life from every vine
You confiscate all that is mine
It is natural, this is true
But I love myself far more than you”
